There are two types of Biathlon: the sprint, which is a race of 6.21 mi (10 km) or 9.3 mi (15 km), and the individual, which is a race of 12.4 mi (20 km) or 18.6 mi (30 km).

The targets are placed at various points along the course, and the skier must hit five targets in a row before the next target is visible. The Biathlon is a part of the Winter Olympics since 1960 when it debuted in the games in Squaw Valley, California.

Skiing events in Winter Games are split into two categories: Alpine skiing and Nordic skiing. Alpine skiing has two subcategories of Olympic games: alpine skiing (three events) and ski jumping (five events).
