They originated from a town called Dalarna in Sweden. In ancient times, they were carved and sold as toys for kids but in the modern time it has become a national symbol representing Sweden as a country and Dalarna as the town.


The production of Dala horses is not limited to Dalarna. Thus, most of the Dala horse found could be distinguished with features and locality of the site where they are created and produced.

The most commonly found Dala horse is painted in red with harnesses in green, white, yellow and or blue and are carved stoutly.

Dala horse was born and created first with home tools, a knife in the middle of a forest, in a small cabin with a bonfire. It was made as a toy for the kids of the inventor.

Did you know? Dala horses were introduced at the World's Fair in New York city in 1939 to North America.
