When in danger or trapped, these black and white creatures shower the spray on their predators to protect themselves. Skunks are nocturnal and live in many parts of America, such as towns, grasslands, forests, deserts, and mountains.

While most skunks are black and white, they also appear in brown, cream, or ginger. The stripes on skunks are from birth.

Skunks have long bodies, short legs, bushy tails, and long front claws for digging. The average size of these animals varies between 15-37 in (40-95 cm) long and weighs from 1-18 lb (0.5-8.2 kg).

Omnivorous in nature, skunks feed on both plants and animal materials. They change their diet according to the seasons.

Did you know? Sometimes skunks perform complex dances to warn their predator, including stomping on the surface, slapping their tail, and an awkward handstand-dance.
