Coco Pops are the chocolatey version of Rice Krispies, but they are so much more than that.

The staple breakfast cereal for families all over the world, Coco Pops are incredibly yummy. It doesn’t matter whether it’s eaten in a bowl with milk, munched on straight from the box (who are we to judge?) or baked into cakes: for crunch and chocolatey flavour, you really can’t go wrong.

Coco Pops were created by Kellogg’s in the United States in 1958 and introduced to the UK in 1961. Almost 60 years later, the chocolate cereal is still going strong.

There are loads of variations out there, from straws to white chocolate. Whatever your cereal preferences, one thing is certain: Coco the Monkey is not going anywhere any time soon.

For an easy baking day with the kids, you can’t really go wrong with Coco Pops cakes. Most recipes are quick to make, require very limited ingredients and end with perfect chocolate treats the entire family can enjoy.

Basic Chocolate Coco Pop Cake Recipe

For the most basic of Coco Pop cakes, all you really need is to follow this super easy recipe, which only needs two ingredients: chocolate and Coco Pops.

Ingredients:

Chocolate of your choice

Coco Pops

Recipe:

Melt the chocolate of your choice (dark, milk or even white), mix in your Coco Pops, pour the mixture into cupcake paper cups and place in the fridge until the cakes are set. What could be easier?

Marshmallow Cake Recipe

Marshmallows are a key ingredient in coco pops cakes, especially in the marshmallow cake recipe.

If you feel like the basic chocolate cake recipe is  too straight forward and want something a bit more exciting, why not add some marshmallows to your cakes?

Ingredients:

Butter

Marshmallows

Vanilla Extract

Coco Pops

Recipe:

Melt butter and marshmallows in a pan then remove from the heat. Add some vanilla extract and your chocolate rice cereals. To get easy-to-eat squares, press the mixture into a baking tray and let it set for as long as needed before cutting it.

Chocolate Slides Recipe

For families with a seriously sweet tooth and a love of slices, you could also make this slightly more complicated recipe. This allows for some creativity with the toppings and is sure to be a favourite with the kids.

Ingredients:

Butter

Biscuits

Chocolate Powder

Condensed Milk

Coco Pops

Chocolate of your choice

Toppings of your choice

Recipe:

Mix crushed biscuits and Coco Pops in a bowl and set aside. Melt butter and add to your biscuits mix, then add some chocolate powder and condensed milk.

Use a tray to even your mixture out and that’s your base done. Melt some chocolate (white, black or milk... your choice) and pour it over the Coco Pops mix.

You might want to add some sprinkles, nuts, M&Ms, coconut flakes or anything else that takes your fancy on top or leave it as is. Either way, the next step is to place your creations in the fridge to set.

Once set, all you have left to do is cut your slices and see how they taste. Make sure to take care when using a sharp knife.

Alternative Recipes

Coco pops are a key ingredient in coco pops cakes.

If you feel like this might all be a bit too much chocolate (if there is such a thing), you can use Rice Krispies for all of the recipes instead and see how the kids like it. Coco Pops are vegan, but butter is not. For a vegan Coco Pops cake, use coconut oil instead of butter.
