Audio stories are a great choice for some quiet time. They are ideal to put on while your children do some artwork, for example, as they can listen along at the same time. They are also a great way for your children to discover entertaining stories they might still be too young to read themselves.

As well as a variety of stories in English, Audible also offer audio story books in French, Japanese, Spanish, German and Italian. Putting an online story on in another language is a great way to familiarise your children with a foreign language.

Even if they don't understand every word, they will grow accustomed to the sounds and rhythm of speech.

From poetry to classic children's novels, timeless fables to modern musical adventures, there is something for every mood and taste in this exciting story library. We have made a list of our favourite KS1 stories on Audible to help you get an idea of what's on offer.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - Read by Scarlett Johannsen

A classic children's tale read in the deep, soothing voice of Scarlett Johannsen. Follow Alice down the rabbit hole into a topsy-turvy world where adult figures are buffoons and fairness and stability aren't guaranteed.

From Alice suddenly feeling like a giant trapped in a tiny house to the Queen of Heart's barking non-sensical commands and still being the highest authority in the land, this magical story is as timely and enjoyable as ever.

Timeless Tales of Beatrix Potter: Peter Rabbit and Friends

The ideal easy listening for a sunny day's craft-making or colouring-in. Join Peter Rabbit and his merry band of woodland friends in this nostalgic collection of short stories and verses from the enchanted world of Beatrix Potter. These classic tales are narrated by multi-award winning veteran performer Katherine Kellgren.

The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood

A timeless classic about friendship, loyalty and justice, the inspiring tale of Robin Hood and his group of loyal companions has enchanted children for generations. These noble outlaws live for one main objective - wealth redistribution.

They aim to take what they can from the ill-gotten wealth of the upper class and share it out amongst the poor. A great lesson in fairness, and how anyone can fight back against an unjust system if they are passionate enough about their cause.

Story Party: The Complete Collection

A fun anthology of stories narrated by a vast cast of talented performers, this story collection is ideal for keeping young listeners entertained and inspired while they doodle away or help with the tidying. This impressive audio book features eight hours of story reading, with themed chapters and valuable life lessons to take away from every reading.

With such an original and diverse selection of stories and songs, you can expect hours of entertainment.

The Owl and the Pussy-Cat and Other Nonsense Rhymes - Read by Alan Bennett

Kids love rhyming audio books, and this is one of the best. A perfect choice for kids in year 1 and year 2, as well as older siblings, children will soon be reading these poems off by heart and reciting them in the classroom to their friends once school's back.

Read by the great actor Alan Bennett, this surreal poetry book will help children develop a passion for poetry while also stimulating their imaginations and understanding of verse form.

Winnie-the-Pooh: A.A. Milne's Pooh Classics, Volume 1

A surefire hit, Winnie-the-Pooh is a safe bet when introducing kids to the world of audiobooks. Children are sure to fall in love with the adorable inhabitants of this enchanting fantasy world.

Join Piglet, Eeyore, Tigger and Pooh as they explore their world with Christopher Robin and help each other on countless adventures. A brilliant performance by Peter Dennis will have kids marvelling at the fact that just one person is voicing all the different characters.

Great Poems for Children

A great audio anthology book featuring over an hour of poems by Lewis Carroll, Edward Lear and Robert Louis Stevenson. With performances from well-known actors such as Emilia Fox, this online poetry book is sure to entertain young listeners in year one and year two.

Kids will soak up the nonsense poems like the 'Jabberwocky', nursery rhymes and lullabies, and laugh along with the comedic poems included.

Laurie Berkner's Song and Story Kitchen

An established star in tween entertainment, Laurie Berkner is sure to keep kids entertained with her buddy Thelonious Pig and her musical culinary extravaganza.

Each chapter of this audio show weaves a magical story around a chosen dish, and listeners can download a free cookery book of featured recipes to accompany the stories. Join Laurie and her charming animal sidekicks in the magical world of Juniper Fields and dance and sing along as she performs her greatest hits.

Who needs a classroom when you can get story-time, music and cookery all at the same time in the comfort of your own home!

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, read by Bill Nighy

Follow Dorothy down the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City and marvel at her adventures and the magical places and characters she comes across on her way. Perhaps the greatest lesson of the book, and a very useful message at the moment, is that there's no place like home!

For all the adventures and exciting times to be had in the big wide world, nothing can substitute a loving home and family and friends who care for you.
