'Faust' is a tragic play written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe which is regarded as his magnum opus and a gem in German literature.

Divided into two parts, the plot of 'Faust' is centered on the protagonist Faust who is on a quest seeking eternal knowledge and sells his soul to the demon Mephistopheles in exchange of which, he will do everything that Faust asks of him.

In the end, despite having gained all the knowledge of the world, as per the contract, Mephistopheles drags him to hell to serve him for eternity.

The prime lesson that Faust teaches us that incessant greed even for knowledge is bound to lead to the downfall of the person. Here is a list of some quotes from the play, 'Faust'.
