'Major League' is a film all about the fictional Cleveland Indians baseball team.

In the film, the character Rachel Phelps inherits control of the Cleveland Indians baseball squad from her deceased husband. Rachel Phelps despises Cleveland and wishes to relocate the team to Miami; luckily the Indians' contract with Cleveland contains an escape clause.

The clause states that the team can relocate if the turnout and attendance for the whole season is below 800,000. Therefore, they are keen on finishing last to reduce their fans' interest.

This would ensure poor attendance, meaning that they could relocate to Miami. Determined to attain the worst rank, Phelps hires Lou Brown (James Gammon) to manage the team and promotes former manager Charlie Donovan (Charles Cyphers) to General Manager.

The team predictably starts the season on a losing streak. Lou Brown then discovers that the pitcher's (Rick Vaughn - played by Charlie Sheen) management problems stem from an uncorrected visual defect. Once he is fitted with glasses, Rick Vaughn's performance improves with further coaching and help, and the team begins to win.
