World Be Bald And Free Day is celebrated worldwide to celebrate the beauty of baldness and support people who experience hair loss due to cancer treatment.
World Be Bald And Free Day is celebrated by everybody with shaved heads due to hair loss or various medical treatments and also all those who want to support the bald people and celebrate baldness and increase their self-esteem.
World Be Bald And Free Day was started in the '80s, though the exact date is unknown.
World Be Bald And Free Day was first started by Thomas Roy and Ruth Roy of Wellcat Herbs.
Shaved heads were in vogue from the year 1950. Men with bald heads seemed more confident and disciplined. Actors, politicians, and many sports stars preferred the bald head look. People like Bruce Willis, Evander Holyfield, and Michael Jordan flaunted the bald scalp trend in the '90s. The bald scalp look was also followed by people either to show support to a person battling cancer or to raise funds. Several campaigns were conducted to raise awareness about a certain health condition in men called Alopecia areata, which can cause irreversible baldness in a person resulting in poor self-image among people. The motto behind these campaigns was also to increase the self-esteem of men and to make them understand that bald people need not feel insecure or embarrassed as people with no hair are more confident and attractive.
The bald head tradition originated in Greece, Egypt, and Rome. In Egyptian culture, all the hair from the body needs to be shaved before any sacrifice. Even Roman and Egyptian priests followed the bald head tradition.
There are many ways to honor this unique day. One is by shaving your head to show support to someone who had lost their hair due to cancer treatment or to try a new trend and style. A fundraising campaign can be organized for all the people who are battling cancer and request people to donate to the cause. The last way is by conducting webinars or various events to create awareness to people without hair that there is no need to feel insecure and cover baldness with a wig or head coverings. Also, to help them understand that people with bald heads are said to be the most attractive and charming.
Some studies suggest that men who are bald have a 30% lower risk of cancer, boosts metabolism due to high levels of testosterone, save a lot of money and time, and also make men look more efficient and mature.
