FOR AGES 1 YEARS TO 99 YEARS
At Kidadl we pride ourselves on offering families original ideas to make the most of time spent together at home or out and about, wherever you are in the world. We strive to recommend the very best things that are suggested by our community and are things we would do ourselves - our aim is to be the trusted friend to parents.
We try our very best, but cannot guarantee perfection. We will always aim to give you accurate information at the date of publication - however, information does change, so it’s important you do your own research, double-check and make the decision that is right for your family.
Kidadl provides inspiration to entertain and educate your children. We recognise that not all activities and ideas are appropriate and suitable for all children and families or in all circumstances. Our recommended activities are based on age but these are a guide. We recommend that these ideas are used as inspiration, that ideas are undertaken with appropriate adult supervision, and that each adult uses their own discretion and knowledge of their children to consider the safety and suitability.
Kidadl cannot accept liability for the execution of these ideas, and parental supervision is advised at all times, as safety is paramount. Anyone using the information provided by Kidadl does so at their own risk and we can not accept liability if things go wrong.
The day is observed throughout the world.
The day is observed by people impacted by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, their parents, and people who are constantly trying to give them a better life.
The day was first observed in 2014.
Elizabeth Vroom and Nicoletta Madia, two active members of the World Duchenne Organization, started the day.
As a community, we can just think about families, children, and adults who have to live life with diseases like Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). The cure is still far away, so life is often not that great. But, a special event like the World Duchenne Awareness Day can come as a respite for people and also push forward future research. So, let's know a bit about its history.
There are no specific traditions and customs related to this day. But, the World Duchenne Organization usually comes up with a theme every year to gather around people and talk about the disease.
The best way to spend the day is by learning about Duchenne and Becker's Muscular Dystrophy. Try to find out how the past decades have changed the concepts of Duchenne and how families deal with it, especially those with adults or young adults having Duchenne. If you know any family or families dealing with Duchenne, use this day to show them support.
The day is observed on September 7 of every year.
Similar events include Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day and World Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy Day.
Observing the day helps raise awareness about the medical issues related to Duchenne and also supports those who have the disease.
The day is great for those who have Duchenne, and they can meet others similar to them. Moreover, the day can bring more recognition in the community related to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
World Duchenne Awareness Day was founded by Elizabeth Vroom and Nicoletta Madia.
