Omg! The Best Scary Halloween Facts Ever You Will Read!
Halloween or the eve of All Hallows' (Saints') Day has been celebrated on October 31 every year for the past 2000 years.
Halloween marks the beginning of Hallowmas season, dedicated to the saints, martyrs, and other departed souls. There are several theories rumored to trace the root of the Halloween celebrations.
One of the theories suggested that the origin of Halloween roots back to the eve of the Christian Celtic festival. The Celts that inhabited northern France, Ireland, and the United Kingdom believed that the dead returned on the festival Samhain to the Earth, around the end of the harvest.
While the Samhain festival is known to have Pagan roots, there are speculations that Samhain is Christianized as All Saints' Day or All Hallow's Day.
Yet another theory claims that Halloween or All Hallows' Eve originated as a mere Christian holiday, being the eve of All Hallow's Day.
Many countries now celebrate Halloween or All Hallows' Eve, whereas the Halloween festival was confined to Scotland and Ireland until the 19th century.
It was the Irish and the Scottish populations that introduced the Halloween culture to North America. Further, Halloween folklore spread to several countries by the 20th and 21st centuries.
Halloween traditions, including trick-or-treating, attending Halloween night parties, wearing Halloween costumes, lighting bonfire, carving pumpkins and creating jack-o'-lanterns, visiting haunted landmarks such as a haunted house, playing games such as fortune-telling, apple bobbing, watching horror movies, attending Christian church services, reading or listening to horror stories or tales, playing tricks, and lighting candle on the grave of dead in their memory, have fascinating spooky stories.
While carving jack-o'-lanterns is a common Halloween custom, the fastest pumpkin carving is yet another event. Ron Wallace created the world record by growing the largest pumpkin that weighed over 1502 lb (681.2 kg), whereas Stephen Clarke holds the record of carving a pumpkin into a jack-o'-lantern within 16.4 seconds.
Yet another record is held by Keene, New Hampshire, the USA, for lighting most jack-o'-lanterns.
The origin of the tradition of carving jack-o'-lantern roots back to Ireland, where people carved jack-o'-lanterns or frightening faces using turnips, potatoes, or gourds rather than pumpkins to frighten away the evil spirits. The story behind the origin of the jack-o'-lantern revolves around a legend named Stingy Jack, as stated by the Irish legend.
Jack used to repeatedly trap the devil and would set forward a condition to free the devil.
He would ask the devil never to let his soul go to hell. But when Jack died, heaven didn't want his soul either.
Thus, Jack's soul was left wandering the Earth as a ghost. The devil was then said to have lent Jack a carved turnip carrying burning coal to light and locate his way around.
Since then, locals started carving horror or spooky faces out using turnips or gourds to scare away bad spirits.
Likewise, every Halloween tradition and custom has a fascinating story that can be traced several to several hundred or thousand years back. Ponder upon more such trivia and fun Halloween facts throughout the article!

51 Amazing Antarctica Facts We Bet You Didn't Know Before
Among the seven continents on the Earth, Antarctica is the coldest, highest, and windiest continent.
Polar regions, lying in the Polar circles, are frigid zones. While the North Pole is the Arctic, the South Pole is called Antarctica or Antarctic circle, meaning 'anti-Arctic' or 'opposite to the Arctic' or 'opposite to the north.'
Antarctica was said to be the last continent to be discovered on Earth. The discovery of the icy continent was catalyzed when Russian explorers Mikhail Lazarev and Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen sighted the Fimbul, Antarctica's ice shelf, around the 1820s during the Russian expedition.
Antarctica is an icy land locked up by an inland ice sheet that is approximately 2.8 mi (4.6 km) thick, located concentrically near the South Pole.
Since Antarctica is the home of more than 90% of the world's ice, it is hard to imagine Antarctica as an ice-free island. But, to much surprise, around 40-50 million years ago, Antarctica was as warm as present-day Melbourne, with Antarctica's temperature rising to 62.6 F (17 C).
While you might think that Antarctica is a mere icy desert, the Antarctic ice sheet covers various landscape features like mountains, plains, deserts, and valleys. It also has two known active volcanoes.
Antarctica is the southernmost continent surrounded by the Southern Ocean.
It is situated in the south of the Antarctic circle of the Southern hemisphere. The fifth-largest continent is almost a polar desert with an Antarctica population as low as 5000 individuals in the summer while only 1000 individuals reside during the winter season.
It covers around 5,500,000 sq. mi (14,200,000 sq.
km).
Although Antarctica has no permanent or native human residents, it is home to several species such as Protista, algae, fungi, bacteria, and other plants, and animals like seals, mites, penguins, nematodes, and moss piglets.
Also, over 18 countries are known to operate research stations on the continent by posting over 10,000 scientists or support workers in the Antarctic summer, which lessens to 1000 workers in the winter season.
Countries including the USA, UK, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, South Africa, Norway, New Zealand, Japan, France, Chile, Belgium, Australia, and Argentina signed the Antarctic Treaty. The Antarctic Treaty was signed to ensure scientific research on the continent.

Do Bugs Have Hearts? How Are They Different From A Human's?
Like the human body is organized into organs, tissues, and cells, insects have quite similar anatomy and physiology to that of a human being.
According to science, humans and insects are classified as different species of animals; thus, they are obviously have similarities as well as differences. Read on to explore more about the science of wildlife creatures, how they are similar, and how they differ.
The circulatory system varies between humans and insects, while insects have an open circulatory system with blood-like fluid plasma called hemolymph flowing through the body cavity, humans have a closed circulatory system having vertebrate blood flowing through blood vessels, veins, and arteries.
Hemolymph is the insect's blood, made up of only 10% blood cells while the other 90% comprises plasma, which contains amino acids, carbohydrates, ions, fats or lipids, hormones, and pigments that are rarely colored.
In contrast, vertebrate blood contains red blood cells and because of the presence of red blood cells, the human blood is red, whereas the insect's blood is yellow or green.
Likewise, insects do have heart, but an insect's heart does not have chambers like human hearts.
Also, human hearts, which is almost the size of a fist, is several times larger than an insect's body size.
Not just the heart, but several of our organs exceed the size of an insect's body.
Do you wonder how such large organs can fit into an insect? While insects have a heart, it does not mean that it has a heart just like you.
An insect's heart has quite different internal structure and functions; neither does it have chambers nor does it pump blood through blood vessels, veins, or arteries, since insect blood flows throughout the body cavity, unlike vertebrates.

How High Can Chickens Fly? Are They Really Just Jumping?
If you had wings or feathers, wouldn't you wish you could fly?
Even though birds have wings and feathers, that does not mean all bird breeds can fly or soar through the air. There are 60 species of birds that are not capable of flight, and some of them are the Cassowary, Emu, Kiwi, Ostrich, Penguin, and Rhea.
Have you ever wondered if a chicken can fly? Continue reading this article to know a chicken's flying ability!
Chickens are widely domesticated throughout the world. These domesticated birds are a subspecies of the Gray or Red Jungle Fowl.
While a male chicken is called a rooster or cock, a female chicken is referred to as a hen. A chicken is the most common bird and has feathers and wings, but you may not find it flying as often as a pigeon. Since chickens are domesticated birds, who would want their petted bird to fly away?
While the noble descendant, gray or red jungle fowl, perches or roosts in trees and is well-adapted to soar and glide to escape its predators, the chicken is a domesticated bird often confined to its owner's backyard or enclosed area like a coop. There are several chicken breeds classified either as heavy breeds or as lighter breeds.
You might wonder if your chicken will be able to fly or not? To be precise, yes, chickens are capable of flying, but not very well.
You might know that the heavier the weight, the more troublesome it will be for the species to lift itself and soar through the air. If provided a free range, an average chicken can fly as high as 10 ft (3 m) for an average distance of 50 ft (15 m). Different chicken breeds are known to fly at different altitudes for varying distances.
You might not worry about the heavy breeds flying or jumping over your fence, but others will be able to jump or fly across a 4-6 ft (1.2-1.8 m) high fence.
Since some chicken, breeds can make it over an average fence, and wing clipping the primary flight feathers is a precautionary measure not to let go of backyard chicken.
