After a successful run at Leeds Playhouse, this modern classic from August Wilson, a playwright from the United States, is here at the Old Vic Theatre with director Tinuke Craig at the helm.

This play is based on post-Vietnam America where eight men share a bond where they love, live, and work for a living.

Explore this fragile bond as Jim Becker, along with the unlicensed drivers, make pick-ups for citizens of Pittsburgh Hill District and take them to places they wish to go, including places that regular taxi cabs would not travel.

Book 'Jitney' tickets today and watch as eight men heal old bruises and inadvertently create new ones.

About 'Jitney'

What is 'Jitney' about?

Jitney cabs consist of unlicensed drivers and along with Jim Becker take the natives of Pittsburgh Hill District to different places. These are places which are not travelled to by regular taxi cabs, but Jim Becker, the owner-manager at Jitney station, and his drivers make these journeys with no judgment or comment.

When they do not have pick-ups, they usually pass the time in their taxis. As the eight men that share a fragile bond work to recover from old wounds, they create new ones, in this story set in post-Vietnam America.

This play takes place in the late '70s when the Pittsburgh Cab Company was thriving, while our eight men work for the less successful, Jitney Cars.

The main characters of the play are Jim, Booster, Becker, Rena, and Youngblood. The play addresses themes such as the division of the black community with psychological and economical oppression and measured gentrification in the Hill District of Pittsburgh.

The cast includes Geoff Aymer (known for 'Sunset Boulevard', 'The Big Life', and 'The Color Purple'), Wil Johnson (known for 'The Lion', 'The Witch and the Wardrobe', and 'Sweat'), Leanne Henlon (known for 'Knock Down'), Tony Marshall, and Leemore Marrett Jr.
