What is the Edinburgh Dungeon?

Nick Varney, the founder and CEO of Vardon Attractions (which is now Merlin Entertainments), founded the Edinburgh Dungeon in 2000. The Edinburgh Dungeon was based upon the same idea as the London Dungeon and includes characters like William Wallace, Vikings, Burke and Hare, and other scenes from the alleyways of Edinburgh.

Since then, there has been quite an evolution in the Edinburgh Dungeon with theatrical actors and shows. There have been shows such as Witch Hunt and Sawney Bean's cannibal cave. There are two thrilling rides, 15 actors, and 11 shows for you to enjoy as the exploration begins with a 500-year history of Edinburgh, with actors performing characters of the past, including Burke and Hare, Agnes Finnie, Sawney Bean, and The Green Lady Elizabeth Elphinstone. This attraction is full of special effects staged in theatrical sets, and includes characters such as 'The Foul Clenger', 'The Torturer', and 'The Judge'. It is a fully immersive experience that allows visitors to really get involved.
