Directed by Jeff James himself, this bold and beautiful adaptation of the classic Jane Austen story was first seen at the Royal Exchange Theatre. Without a bonnet in sight, enjoy the quick wit and sharp observations of Jane Austen's novel on the stage, with the play providing a modern twist for the 21st century.

What is Persuasion about?

Jane Austen's novel has been brought to the stage, with all of its sharp observations and quick wit coming along too. This 21st-century production by Jeff James and James Yeatmanis is a reimagining of the old book.

You can even enjoy a foam party! With a brilliant and beautiful soundtrack by Frank Ocean, Dua Lipa, and Cardi B, this romantic comedy is riotously reimagined for the present generation.

In association with Oxford Playhouse, Persuasion is an Alexandra Palace and Rose Theatre Production.

The story follows Captain Wentworth and Anne Elliot. Eight years ago, Wentworth proposed to Anne when he had no money and only love and ambition to offer.

Anne's family forced her to reject the proposal, but Anne never got over her first love. Now, Wentworth is back and very rich. He is successful and single, and the handsome captain is now considered a serious catch.

Different circumstances bring the two in front of each other, and Anne now has to confront her past and face her choices. The question now is whether the captain will forgive Anne for rejecting him and if she will learn to trust her desires.
