Anfield Stadium is home to Liverpool Football Club and is one of the world’s most historic and iconic stadiums. In fact, it’s one of the few football stadiums known the world over by name alone.
The stadium was built in 1884 and it was originally the home of Everton, Liverpool’s bitter local rivals. But luckily for Liverpool FC, Everton moved to Goodison Park in 1891 due to a rent dispute.
The seventh largest football stadium in England, the Anfield stadium capacity is a whooping 54,074. The ground itself contains four stands: the main stand, the Kop, the centenary stand and Anfield Road End.
The Kop is the most well-known stand at Anfield amongst home and away supporters. Built in 1906, the Kop could hold 30,000 spectators standing at its peak. Today it holds just under 12,500 spectators seated.

What to know before you go
- Anfield is close to the home of Everton FC, Goodison Park. It’s just over a half a mile walk through Stanley Park to get there.
- You will either be able to visit Anfield as part of the crowd on a match day, or as member of a tour.
- Stadium tours don't take place if there's a home game coming up soon.
- Anfield Stadium tours are available 7 days a week. Opening times are from 10am until 4pm depending on fixtures.
- Unfortunately the Premier League trophy is currently not on display at Anfield.
- Take home a souvenir from Anfield from the LFC retail store at Anfield, which is located in Paisley Square.
- It’s best to travel light as there are no lockers to leave luggage or bags.
- The football-themed Boot Room Sports Café serves freshly prepared food, including pasta dishes, pizzas, steaks and salads, as well as a great kids’ menu. (The café is temporarily closed and you can find snacks and drinks to take away from one of the food kiosks, which you can find next to the museum by The Kop. Please be aware that they are only accepting card payments.)
- There are several pubs near Anfield stadium that you can grab a bite to eat before or after your visit. Please be aware that for many of the pubs in the area, you must be over 21 to enter. The Black Horse on County Road has a kids’ menu and outdoor seating and is only a six-minute drive from Anfield.
- The stadium is wheelchair accessible. There are accessible toilets located in all stands. You will find changing places toilets situated in the KOP and main stand.
- You will find baby-changing facilities in the toilets near the Boot Room Sports Cafe and the Liverpool FC Story entrances.
- If you need to go to a cash point, there is one located on Walton Breck Road. You can pay via card at all the kiosks.
- Keep your eyes peeled as there are loads of special photo opportunities around Anfield for fans to use both on a match day and non-match day.
- Whilst you are visiting Anfield, take a trip to the centre of Liverpool, the city of the Beatles, culture and of course, more football!
Getting there
- Liverpool Lime Street is two miles away from the stadium. From here, you can either take a taxi or a bus to nearby Queen Square bus station. From London, a train to Lime Street station takes approximately 3 hours.
- From Liverpool ONE bus station, take the 26 or 27 bus to the stadium. It takes approximately 20 minutes. The 917-express bus service runs every 10 minutes directly from Liverpool city centre to Anfield.
- If you are visiting on a non-match day, there is free parking near Anfield stadium in the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand car park. You will find the entrance on Walton Breck Road L4 0RE.
