DIY isn't just for parents though- kids of all ages can get involved in helping make new things for the home! In this list, we've come up with lots of fun projects that are easy for kids to get to grips with, and are a great opportunity for family bonding.
From painting walls to creating your very own herb garden, these top ideas have something for everyone and allow everyone to get involved in DIY crafts.
Wall Painting
Redecorating doesn't have to be difficult- in fact, this is a great opportunity to let the kids take part in helping do up the house!
Whether your children are into art or not, it's easy to turn wall painting into a fun activity with minimal mess. Once you've masked and painted the edges of the wall yourself, load your paint roller and, making sure they are holding with both hands, let your child paint the lower wall.
This activity requires supervision but it a great way to help kids develop their independence.
Mini Woodwork Project
Making things out of wood might sound intimidating (especially when children are involved), but introducing kids to woodwork can actually be lots of fun and is perfectly safe with correct supervision. Decorate the frame using glitter, paper, paint and anything else you have in the craft box. And there you have it, your very own homemade jewellery organiser!

It might not seem too interesting to grown-ups, but enlisting the kids to help you assemble flat pack furniture can be a great way to keep them entertained. Older kids and teens can help problem solve and build, while younger children organise parts (or just play in the cardboard box!).
Make A Blanket
Learning to knit or crochet is a fantastic skill for kids to get to grips with. All you need is needles, yarn and a can-do attitude!

DIY Herb Garden
There are endless possibilities when it comes to creating your own indoor herb garden. All you need are containers such as jars, soil, seeds and a good warm sunny location (a window is ideal).
Kids can help plant the seeds and water the plants daily, and then pick the herbs they like when it's time to cook! Some good examples of herbs that are easy to grow are coriander, basil, rosemary, oregano, mint, parsley dill and thyme.
Top Tip: Before you plant your garden, have a craft afternoon where you let the kids loose with the jars (or whatever container you choose) and art supplies. Each child could decorate their own herb pot, and be responsible for its growth. Don't remember to label them so you know which herb is which!

Gather up your old shirts, plainclothes or sheets! It's time to have a day of family tie-dye fun, where the kids are encouraged to make mess for once.
