Bogue, a seabream species, is scientifically known as Boops boops and with various other names in different languages. It is found in various saltwater bodies such as the Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea, and East Atlantic Ocean and in various water bodies until 328 ft (100 m) underwater.

A bogue is described as a coastal pelagic fish. Sex determination for a bogue is an extremely difficult and challenging task. They natively belong to the Atlantic region, the eastern Atlantic Ocean.

It feeds over the surface of water bodies during the nighttime in school rather than during the day. It has a silvery and golden appearance, with large bugged eyes and a not-so-pleasing appearance.

The name 'Boops' has a Greek origin which means 'cow eye'. It was scientifically assigned to bogue due to the similar appearance of the large bugged eye of bogue to that of a cow.

Humans eat pan-fried, broiled, or baked bogue as it tastes good. The edible portion of Boops boops is measured to have 87 calories per 3.5 oz (100 g) of raw bogue.

It is also highly nutritious with 87% protein, 12% fats, and 4% carbohydrates. Though, it is also said that boops should not be preferably consumed as it has some interactions with drugs. It is advised to consult a doctor before consuming boga.
