This article will tell you everything you need to know about a rare mixed breed dog, commonly known as the Afghan lab.

The Afador is a crossbreed or mixed dog breed, the parental dog breeds are the Afghan Hound and Labrador Retriever. Another name for Afadors is Afghan Lab.

The parental Afghan Hound dog breed is native to Afghanistan and of one of the oldest dog breeds in the world.

They have a long, thick, and silky coat, generally fawn, black-brown, and off-white. These dogs stand tall at 24–29 in (61–74 cm) in height and weigh about 44–60 lb (20–27 kg).

The only downside of these dogs is that they are not very intelligent and are hard to train. The other parental dog breed, the Labrador Retriever, is from Canada and is one of the most popular pet dog breeds.

They are medium-sized dogs with golden-blonde, chocolate brown, and black coats.

Labrador Retriever dogs are highly intelligent and even trained to be assistance and police dogs. These parental dog breeds are complete opposites, so the Afador inherits both traits of both its parent breeds, such as intelligence and energy from the Labrador Retriever, and the beauty and grace of the Afghan Hound the Afador dog breed.

Generally, the Afador tends to vary in temperament, but most of them are patient, affectionate, loyal, playful, intelligent, and courageous.

Even though this hybrid dog was developed in Alaska more than a decade ago, the breeders are still working on stabilizing the dog's personality, appearance and improving the breed overall. Training an Afador dog can be a little tricky for the owners at the beginning, as it takes after the Afghan Hound who has a reputation for being disobedient.

Afador puppies require minimal grooming, but when they're nine months of age they become high maintenance dogs that require grooming and brushing at least twice a week.

These dogs generally are healthy, some are predisposed to health problems faced by the parental breed including bloating, hip and elbow dysplasia, and subaortic stenosis. Gaining excess weight may also lead to several health problems.

Taking good care of your dog(s) is very important, Afadors, in particular, require at least 30-45 minutes of daily exercise to maintain their health and to burn off some of their energy, regular visits to a vet.
