Datousaurus are said to belong to the Middle Jurassic Period, and the remains were found in the Sichuan Province of China. This is said to have been a herbivorous sauropod with spoon-shaped teeth and a pretty big skull, as well as a huge body length. Dong Zhiming and Tang were the ones to name the genus in 1984.
The pronunciation is 'Dah-too-sore-us'.
The classification points out Datousaurus as a sauropod.
Datousaurus belonged to the Middle Jurassic Period.
It is unknown when exactly they became Extinct, but it could have been when the Middle Jurassic Period ended.
This prehistoric lizard with the big head would have lived in an area that is now the Sichuan Province of China, where its remains were discovered.
This sauropod lived in a terrestrial habitat.
Unfortunately, it is unclear whether the Datousaurus lived in groups.
No information is available about its lifespan.
They were oviparous.
It's said to have had a long neck like other sauropods along with heaving a big skull, as pointed out by the fossils.
From the partial skeletons discovered, this dinosaur had a large skull, making scientists name it the big head lizard. It is also said to have had spoon-shaped teeth to chew through the leaves, as seen in the fossils, which makes them special.
They communicated through sounds.
This sauropod had a length of 49 ft (15 m) due to the large skull that had been discovered.
As a big dinosaur, it would have been slow.
Its weight is unknown.
There are no separate names for the two.
A baby would be called a hatchling.
We don't know how aggressive these dinosaurs might have been, but their big size might have deterred predators.
The generic name Datousaurus is derived from 'da tou' which means 'big head', and its entire name means 'big-head lizard'.
Dilophosaurus is the spitting dinosaur in Jurassic Park.
Dinosaurs such as Kaijiangosaurus, Yangchuanosaurus, and Xuanhanosaurus could have been their predators.
