A famous Juratyrant fact is they paved a path for tyrants of the upcoming age.

This Dinosauria Theropoda from the north, which is also known as the genus from the late Jurassic period and the early Tithonian age, is named after the famous researcher Peter Langham.

The Stokesosaurus langhami was once classified under the species Stokesosaurus, as not many specimens of this species were found, with only one specimen to date recovered by the paleontology community.

Their classification was often a vague concept and originally their belonging was linked to several other dinosaurs from history. This theropod was re-classified as the sister to Bansal and more advanced tyrannosauroids such as the Stokesosaurus clevelandi.

There are many interesting references and talks when it comes to the tyrant of England.

This species of vertebrae was initially small predators, able to hunt down prey of their size or a little larger. Later, they became the stepping stone for imposing larger tyrants.

These theropods were the first and the earliest species of the Tyrannosaur. They lived around one million years ago.

A full skeleton of these vertebrae have not been found. A partial skeleton and a complete pelvis have been discovered, which helped later studies significantly in research and more delicate classification.

They are related to famous dinosaurs such as the T-rex and their fossil discovery was mainly made in regions of the United Kingdom such as the Kimmeridge clay formation.

The Jurassic world is full of stories of such tail vertebrae; to learn more about such animals and their current-day relatives, make sure to check out our articles on snapping turtles and Chinese alligators.

Juratyrant Interesting Facts

How do you pronounce 'Juratyrant'?

The classification of this vertebra under its species is solely because researchers like Brusatte studied its partial fossil which contained a neck, a leg, the back, and tail vertebrae from the Jurassic period. Later, the species got mentioned under its rightful genus because of Roger Benson. This dinosaur name can be pronounced as "JURA-ty-RANT".

What type of dinosaur was a Juratyrant?

The Dorset foundation of America and the United Kingdom had a great role when it came to the classification of this theropod. The origin of this species starts from the Tyrannosauroid, after which it comes under the Proceratosauridae group.

Remains give significant information about the stage and site where they lived and walked. his species from the late Jurassic period was one of the few of the earliest dinosaurs of the tyrannosaur family.

In which geological period did the Juratyrant roam the Earth?

Researchers identify North America and several other parts of England as the ideal home for this species during the late Jurassic time. This dinosaur has numerous vertebrae, and its skull and forelimbs speak a lot about their relations with other species under the Stokesosaururs.

According to various published research papers with taxon numbers related to this species, these Tyrannosauroids inhabited Earth as early as 150.8 million years ago.

When did the Juratyrant become extinct?

The mentioned reasons regarding the extinction of dinosaurs all together speak greatly about the compromised situation on Earth. As asteroid collision and several volcanic eruptions led to an increase in the Earth's temperature, most of the species are now mere fossils.

Where did the Juratyrant live?

A majority of the activities and lifestyles of the Stokesosaurus langhami is still a mystery to the world. North America, the United Kingdom, and places like the Tithonian horizon at the Kimmeridge clay formation were homes for this species.

What was the Juratyrant's habitat?

As many researchers discovered, the Juratyrant langhami was a small predator. They are a relative of the Tyrannosaurus and could hunt very efficiently with their clawed hands.

Many discovered fossil remains were found in England. Complete information about the habitat of this dinosaur is difficult to gather, as not much is written about them even to date. Nonetheless, during the late Jurassic period, these dinosaurs often lived near places where they could hunt down smaller prey easily.

Who did the Juratyrant live with?

According to research, a Juratyrant langhami either lived alone or in a group of 3-4. Their smaller size can be a reason for them to not hunt much, hence living in groups probably increased their chances of catching good prey.

Studies by Dorset and other researchers link this vertebra with the Chinese Tyrannosauroid.

Believing the discovery and other research on the behavior of this dinosaur, it's possible for a tyrant to live with other family members. Reptiles such as the chameleon and sand lizards share a relation with these dinosaurs.

How long did the Juratyrant live?

We still don't have complete knowledge about the lifestyle and other behaviors of this dinosaur. Many researchers believe that during the Jurassic period, members of the Stokesosaurus langhami could easily have lived for 10-20 years, like other dinosaurs of similar size. This is also the average lifespan of the Stokesosaurus clevelandi and other tyrant families.

How did they reproduce?

Reproduction by laying eggs is a common practice among reptiles. Very few dinosaurs were capable of reproducing otherwise, and they shared a close relationship with reptiles of today's age. All dinosaurs reproduced by laying eggs, and the same goes for this species as well.

Juratyrant Fun Facts

What did the Juratyrant look like?

The early Tyrannosauroids are still a mystery and we have very little information about them. When it comes to the discovery of the Stokesosaurus langhami we can say a very similar thing.

Re-classification was done as knowledge about these vertebrae was very vague. Fossil remains included only a partial skeleton so only give information about a few components of this dinosaur's body.

The one specimen from this species that we have comes with body parts such as the cervical vertebra, along with five other dorsal vertebrae. A complete sacrum and a pelvis girdle with other fragments along with a leg and a neck have been studied to date.

How many bones did a Juratyrant have?

The juratyrant size is smaller than that of other carnivore species. Researchers from America and the United States can only write very little about this species, as very few remains of the previous specimen are present.

Overall information in detail about bones and the body structure is not present, but this resident of the Kimmeridge clay formation possesses many vertebrae.

How did they communicate?

The tail plays a significant role when it comes to communication among such dinosaurs. Peter Langham, who is very famous for both naming and carrying on significant research on this family of early Theropoda, believes these Tyrannosauroids could communicate just fine through their tails and vocals.

How big was a Juratyrant?

In length, this dinosaur from Dorset was 16 ft (5 m). Although the Juratyrant length is a very small parameter of size, we cannot know for sure how big they were unless we compare them with other dinosaurs. They were twice as big as the eastern lowland gorilla and around 3-4 times bigger than an Asiatic black bear.

How fast could a Juratyrant move?

Their leg muscles were incredibly strong and speed was their friend when it came to escaping from larger predators or invading territories. They were incredibly smart as per researchers such as S.L. Brusatte.

How much did a Juratyrant weigh?

Considering the habitat site was England and it was the Jurassic period, according to researchers such as Peter Langham and Roger Benson, an adult at a healthy stage could weigh around 450-500 lb (204-226 kg).

What were the male and female names of the species?

Males and females of this species have the same name.

What would you call a baby Juratyrant?

Baby dinosaurs are either nestlings or hatchlings, just like present-day reptiles.

What did they eat?

During Jurassic time, as discovered by Benson, this family of vertebrae would eat small mammals or small dinosaurs.

How aggressive were they?

As Peter Langham discovered about the behavior of the Juratyrant, it is believed they were indeed aggressive hunters.

Did you know...

There is no information anywhere about the skull and limbs of this discovered species.

Why are they called Juratyrants?

They are known by this name because they are tyrants from Jurassic times.

Would the Juratyrant bite?

Yes, this discovered genus from England could bite and it was lethal for smaller dinosaurs.
