Pterospondylus facts are extremely captivating.

Pterospondylus is classified as a dubious genus of theropod dinosaur group whose origins can be traced back to the Late Triassic Norian period. The discovery of the type species was made in 1913-1914. Paleontologist Otto Jaekel came up with the nomenclature and, for the first time, described Pterospondylus trielbae based on a single back vertebra.

What type of dinosaur was a Pterospondylus?

Pterospondylus, belonging to the Coelophysidae family, is an Extinct genus of theropod dinosaur.

In which geological period did the Pterospondylus roam the Earth?

It is estimated that they inhabited the Earth during the Late Triassic period.

Pterospondylus fossils were found in the Trossingen Formation in Germany.

What was the Pterospondylus' habitat?

They lived in a terrestrial environment.

Who did the Pterospondylus live with?

Their degree of sociability is not known due to incomplete fossil data.

How long did a Pterospondylus live?

There is no information regarding the lifespan of this dinosaur.

Pterospondylus Fun Facts

What did the Pterospondylus look like?

Protodinosaur, Pterospondylus trielbae, was first described by Otto Jaekel as a coelophysid theropod species on the basis of an isolated dorsal vertebra. Most of the assumptions, which have been based on the features of the centrum of the vertebra, have seen Pterospondylus being put in the same bracket with another Triassic species, Procompsognathus.

This has been done despite the differences in the size of the bone, with the Procompsognathus bone being half the size of the corresponding vertebra.

How many bones did a Pterospondylus have?

Reconstruction of the species has been made on the basis of the features of a single back vertebra. Hence, no conclusive statements can be made about its skeletal composition.

How did they communicate?

The pattern of communication isn't known due to a lack of specified data.

How big was the Pterospondylus?

Their size was not estimated.

How fast could a Pterospondylus move?

The locomotion abilities are unknown.

How much did a Pterospondylus weigh?

Their weight is unknown at the moment due to insufficient data.

What were the male and female names of the species?

They can simply be called male and female Pterospondylus.

What would you call a baby Pterospondylus?

A baby Pterospondylus would likely be called a hatchling.

How aggressive were they?

Pterospondylus' degree of aggression is unknown since the research has been concluded entirely on the basis of an isolated vertebra.

Did You Know…

The term ' Pterospondylus' translates to 'winged vertebra', whereas, 'Trielabe' is a combination of 'Tri', reflecting the Triassic period, and 'Elba' in reference to Elbe River area.
