The Xixiasaurus was discovered in China.

The Xixiasaurus henanensis is a type of troodontid theropod dinosaur whose fossils were found in Xixia County, Henan Province in central China. The area is part of the Xixia Basin that also has the Majiacun Formation. It was described as a genus by Lü Junchang.

The fossils became the holotype specimen of this species. Xixiasaurus henanensis translates to 'Henan Xixia lizard'. The fossil specimen consists of the skull, parts of the lower jaw, and parts of the right forelimb.
