The Hershey Company began as Hershey Chocolate Company, which manufactured chocolate bars and Hershey Kisses. In 1900, the company introduced Hershey's Syrup, which increased its sales.

In 1906, Milton Hershey developed a machine capable of mass-producing chocolate. He created the Hershey Chocolate Company and started making chocolate, becoming the first licensed chocolate maker in the United States. Today, Hershey is the largest producer of chocolate and sweetened cocoa globally.

History Of Hershey Chocolate

The Hershey family has a curious and exciting story. Milton Hershey, a Pennsylvania-born entrepreneur, invented Hershey's Chocolate. Hershey Company is a significant player in the confectionery industry.

In 1852, Milton Hershey (1857-1945), a young caramel seller, bought his first candy-making equipment.

He rented a small, two-story building in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and experimented with making chocolates.

In 1857, he became a partner with Lancaster Caramel Company, a candy company store.

The candy business company was doing well, but Hershey was always looking for new and better ways to make chocolates.

He bought out his partner for $1,000 and started his own shop seven years later.

He made some crucial changes to his chocolate recipe, and he started selling Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bars. They were an instant success.

The first crisped rice chocolate bar was introduced as a limited edition in 1939 by R.M. Allen Company (later acquired by Hershey) to coincide with the opening of the New York World's Fair.

Process Of Making Hershey Chocolate

The process of making Hershey Chocolate is not as simple as we thought.

For example, it takes about 8,000 lb (3628.7 kg) of fresh milk and 3000 gal (11356.2 l) of freshwater to make 1 lb (0.5 kg) of chocolate.

The candy is then mixed with pure cocoa butter and sweetened with sugar. It takes 2,000 lb (907.2 kg) of cocoa beans to produce just 1 lb (0.5 kg) of cocoa butter.

The cocoa bean is the main ingredient of chocolate. The cocoa beans are then roasted and liquefied, which gives us a combination of cocoa mass and cocoa butter, which is then further processed to give us chocolate.

It all begins with fresh cocoa beans. These are sourced from the Ivory Coast in Africa, then roasted and ground.

Next, the cocoa powder is separated from the cocoa butter, made into cocoa butter, and sold to cosmetics companies.

This leaves the company with cocoa powder, further processed into cocoa liquor.

Once this process is finished, the remaining cocoa liquor is placed into large vats mixed with milk powder, sugar, and cocoa butter.

After this, the mixture is fine-tuned and then poured into molds; these molds are then cooled and removed from the top layer of the chocolate. This is where the three classic bars are born: Hershey's, Reese's, and Kisses.

Different Types Of Hershey Chocolate

There are several different types of Hershey chocolate. Hershey's makes regular Hershey's candy bars and Hershey's unique dark chocolate bars.

They also make Hershey's Kisses, small chocolates that come in many different flavors.

Over 500 million chocolate bars are sold in more than 70 countries every year.
