Making a loaf of bread at home may appear to be a difficult task, but it isn't if you follow an easy bread dough recipe.

These easy bread recipes are quick and convenient to follow, and making bread dough at home is a fantastic way to keep youngsters occupied at home. Teach them the fundamentals of dough mixing, kneading, and resting before allowing them to experiment with other forms and flavors.

When was bread invented?

A 14,500-year-old Natufian site in Jordan's northeastern desert has revealed the world's oldest evidence of bread-making. Grains became the mainstay of baking bread around 10,000 BC, with the commencement of the Neolithic age and the development of agriculture.

As early as 6000 BC, Sumerians baked leavened bread, and they may have passed on their knowledge to the Egyptians around 3000 BC. Egyptians improved the method by mixing yeast into the flour. Sumerians were already adding ash to the dough before baking it.

Countries all across the world evolved their own varieties of bread in the following centuries. Some breads were leavened, while others were not.

Around 450 BC, Romans developed water-milling, and as a result, they elevated bread to the status of an art form. Whiter bread was thought to be of greater quality and more suited to the educated and wealthy by wealthier Romans.

Similarly, bread baking became quite a prestigious symbol in medieval Britain. Upper-class people favored fine, white loaves, whereas lower-class people had to make do with rye, bran, and coarser bread.

Different Types Of Flour Used In Making Bread

Hard wheat flour is prepared from high-protein wheat types (containing 10-14% protein). Soft wheat flour is prepared from low-protein wheat types (which contain 5-10% protein content).

All-Purpose Flour: This is the most popular sort of flour, and it's frequently used in desserts. Despite the fact that it is made from whole wheat, the bran (the outermost part of the grain) is removed, leaving only the innermost section of the grain.

As a result, the flour becomes significantly softer. All-purpose flours are frequently supplemented with vitamins and minerals while being stripped of their original nutrition.

Cake Flour: With a protein level of 5-8%, cake flour is the least protein-dense of all flours. It contains less gluten as a result, resulting in softer baked goods and is ideal for cakes, muffins, and biscuits. Cake flour absorbs more liquid and sugar than all-purpose flour, resulting in a very moist cake.

Whole-Wheat Flour: Next is whole-wheat flour, commonly known as 'atta', which is the most popular and widely used flour in Indian households. Whole-wheat flour, unlike refined all-purpose flour, is unrefined, high in fiber, and contains all three parts of the wheat kernel: endosperm, bran, and germ. Denser flours, which are more absorbent, require more moisture.

Pastry Flour: With a protein content of 8-9%, pastry flour is a mix between all-purpose flour and cake flour. It's the go-to for pie crusts, tarts, and cookies because it finds the perfect combination of flakiness and tenderness.

You may create your own by combining one and one-third cup all-purpose flour with two-thirds of a cup cake flour at home.

Bread Flour: This sort of flour is used to make bread and other products with a chewier texture. In order to achieve that chewy texture, the bread dough must be kneaded long enough for the gluten to develop.
