The University of South Carolina is one of the many public universities in the nation.

According to a world report, the college ranks in 117th place in a list of public colleges in the United States of America. This college and its many schools have a moderate rate of acceptance, which is typically in the range of around 69%.

This means that while the competition to get into this college may not be too high, getting an admission in the more famous courses such as the school of nursing or pharmacy can become difficult.

The university's many historic buildings and other architectural specimens allow the students to indulge in the rich cultural history. There are many places on the campus that have also made it into the National Register for Historic Places.

One such place would be the Horseshoe. When the university was founded in the year 1801, the campus was planned to be in a U-shape, which came to be referred to as the Horseshoe.

Back then, this university was referred to as the South Carolina College. In the future, of course, it became the flagship educational institution of South Carolina and was renamed the University of South Carolina.
