The European Society of Radiology organized the very first Day Of Radiology on February 10, 2011, to mark the anniversary of Röntgen's death.

The International Day Of Radiology was inspired by this but altered the date from Röntgen's death to the anniversary of his discovery of the X-ray.

In addition to its support for the day, the European Society of Radiology published a journal on the chosen topic of that year.
