Welding facts could be an interesting topic for you to read and know more about.

Welding or fabrication is an important manufacturing process which is believed to have been started in the Bronze Age . In this process two or more manufacturing products are fused together.

This fusion is usually done by applying an adequate amount of pressure and heat on them. The metals or the products that are being fused are known as parent materials.

Industrially there are four types of welding. They are gas metal arc, gas tungsten arc, shielded metal arc and flux-cored arc welding. Keep reading to learn more.

Uses & Purpose Of Welding

As we know, welding is basically a process for fusing machine parts of products together. So, this process has numerous commercial and industrial uses.

Dry welding and underwater welding are used in the automotive, construction, and mechanical industries.

The metallic bonds created by welding tools are used to build ships, large water vessels and medical devices.

Laser materials are processed with the help of welding.

Apart from metals, welding is used to join thermoplastics and wood as well.

Welding is used in the aeronautical industries to produce leak-free welds.

Types Of Welding

Over the period time, the process of welding has evolved and has emerged in various ways. In order to serve the various purposes in the different types of industries, there are four types of welding. The four types are flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and shielded metal arc welding (SMAW).

Gas metal arc welding is the most common type that is used in the construction business.

The farmers use gas tungsten arc welding for making wagon frames and fenders.

Stick or shielded metal arc welding is used to create a metal touch in the underwater pipelines. They are also used for repairing and maintaining industrial fabrications.

Tungsten is one of the strongest metals in the world. So gas tungsten arc welding is mostly used in the aeronautical industries.

Flux-cored arc welding can be a bit similar to gas metal arc welding as they both require power supplies. This process is used for fusing heavier metals.

Remuneration & Benefits Of Being A Welder

Apart from benefitting several industries, the process of welding also benefits the welder. Welders are known to have access to all the elite companies and get certified without much formal education.

The demand for welders have increased manifolds since the end of the 20th century, when the industrial and automotive sectors began to flourish.

According to an estimation by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for welders is expected to rise up to 3% between 2019-2029.

Due to the high demand, they also enjoy a comfortable salary slab based on the company policies. The average salary of a welder is estimated to be around 38,822 USD.

One of the major benefits of being a welder, is the diverse and numerous fields, where their expertise is required. Since dry welding or cold welding or forge welding are required individually in various workplaces, a welder with the relevant knowledge can change companies and aim for better salary packages.

Technique & Procedure Of Welding

There is no one particular procedure or technique of welding. Over the years, the methods have evolved and changed based on the convenience of the user.

Gas metal arc welding requires a wire electrode and a glass shield to join the metal molecules. The procedure is executed under a constant and direct source of electricity.

The gas metal arc technique is used for joining thick metals and is specially used in manufacturing industrial robot. The process works on various procedures like globular transfer, short-circuiting, spray transfer, and pulsed spray.

Gas tungsten arc method is a time-consuming process. In this technique, arc welding causes the tungsten to create the electrode weld.

The shielded arc or the stick welding usually requires current to create the weld between a metal and a stick. Metals mostly include steel structures. It should be done with utmost care. The welders need to make sure that a destructive type of bend is created in the weld to join the metals and the stick.
