National Hanging Out Day is celebrated in the USA.
People who understand the benefits of conserving energy and are actively willing to take the effort to do so by doing something as simple as hanging their clothes out on a clothesline celebrate this day.
National Hanging Out Day first started in 1995.
Project Laundry List and several other organizations started National Hanging Out Day.
The mission of Project Laundry List was to convince people how washing clothes in cold water and air drying them were extremely simple and efficient ways to save energy. When housing associations were making hanging clothes outdoor an offense, Project Laundy List helped get the Right to Dry laws passed.
Initially, people used to dry their clothes outdoor and on clotheslines, but with the invention of the electric dryer, people moved further away from this tradition. People leave their clothes out to dry on clotheslines in order to conserve energy but at the same time to enjoy the benefits of air drying. The clothes smell fresher, and it helps reduce our carbon footprint too.
You can celebrate National Hanging Out Day in a variety of ways. If you have never tried to air dry your clothes, this is the perfect day to start doing so. Hanging out your clothes to dry on a clothesline and sharing pictures of this on social media platforms can be one of the effective ways to celebrate this day. Some people even sleep in the sunlight on freshly air-dried sheets to enjoy the natural freshness the experience gives them. Going outdoors, breathing in the fresh air, and hanging out your clothes to dry can be a therapeutic experience for some. Encourage people, including your friends and family, to take time off from using electric dryers and trying out a clothesline on this day.
