The Museum of London and the Museum of London Docklands will reopen on Thursday 6 August.

The family favourites tell the story of the capital city in a family-friendly format. We've yet to meet a child who hasn't grinned their way around the immersive Victorian street scenes at either venue.

The museums were closed in March as part of the measures to tackle coronavirus. They are now reopening with a raft of safety measures in place, to protect visitors and staff.

Crucially, entry will be granted only to those with pre-booked (free) tickets for a given time slot (available from the museum website). This will ensure the museum does not get too crowded, and help to maintain social distancing. Visitors are also encouraged to wear face coverings where possible.

Opening times are now shorter. You can visit either museum between 11.30am and 3.30pm Monday to Friday.

As well as touring the museums' brilliant permanent displays, you'll also be able to see a temporary exhibition about The Clash's album London Calling (at the City of London branch), and a small display about London's Krio community (originally from Sierra Leone) at the Docklands venue.

Sadly, the 2012 Olympic Cauldron Gallery, and the recreation of Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens remain closed until further notice. They'll be missed, but there's still plenty for kids to enjoy at these two cultural gems. Be sure to check out the trails for under-5s and activity sheets for over-5s.
