Kids will love this free printable hyena head coloring pages resource. Hyenas are carnivorous animals that belong to the family of Hyaenidae.

Though they are quite similar in appearance to dogs, Hyenas are related to cats more closely. There are four main species of hyenas, namely, the spotted, striped, brown, and aardwolf. Brown and striped hyenas play dead when lions or dogs attack them, while the spotted hyenas are known for defending themselves.

Hyenas are the smallest carnivorous mammals on Earth. Striped hyenas only eat dead animals, while the spotted hyenas hunt their food.

The average life expectancy of a hyena is around 15 to 20 years. Hyenas usually hunt alone and have a sharp sense of smell and sight.

Despite being smaller in size, they can fight for their prey from large predators like lions and leopards. Striped and brown hyenas live in savannah bushes or among desert scrubs, while spotted ones are found in plain grasslands.

These helpful sheets can also be used to learn more about hyenas, offering them a chance to know interesting facts about them!

Did you know? Hyenas first appeared around 22 million years ago in Eurasia.
