Located several feet above sea level in the Pacific Ocean, lies the world's most isolated region, the Hawaiian archipelago. It comprises several major and minor islands, approximately 137 of which are volcanic.

The state of Hawaii is part of the Western United States. It is separated from the US mainland by an approximately 2000 mi (3218 km) wide stretch of the Pacific Ocean.
