Fun Pukyongosaurus Facts For Kids

The Pukyongosaurus is a genus of dinosaurs that lived in South Korea during the early Cretaceous period. This Titanosauriform dinosaur was known to be closely related to the Euhelopus.

The dinosaur in this genus is also known from a series of vertebrae in the neck and the back. The name Pukyongosaurus has a meaning of Pukyong lizard given after the Pukyong National University.

Characteristics that were earlier used to distinguish the genus have now been criticized for being too poorly preserved to evaluate or being too widespread. Due to these changes in characteristics, the genus has been rendered now as an indeterminate nomen dubium among Titanosauriforms.

This genus of large Sauropod dinosaur has a type species known as Pukyongosaurus millenniumi. The Pukyongosaurus with Kaloptauruses formed a community as it is said that these big Sauropods lived with small Pterosaurs called Kaloptauruses which ate ticks from the giant dinosaur's skin.

The dinosaur was a tall-spined form, but it is not yet fully described as only a fraction of bones has been found so far. Several fragments of a skeleton of a Sauropod were found in 2001 in the Hasandong formation in Hadong County, South Korea.

Even the caudal vertebrae of the Pukyongosaurus had a few bite marks from predacious teeth of a Theropod.

The Pukyongosaurus fossil had five points that were unearthed and consisted of one point of the clavicle, ribs, and one point of caudal ribs. Many researchers still explore the region for more information but only some parts have been found to date.

It is not known if the Sauropod was killed by the predator or not but toothmarks were left after the Pukyongosaurus died. We don't know what predators could have done such a thing; however, some predators found in those areas include the Allosaurus and the Tyrannosaurus, so it could be either of them or something else entirely.
