The Beauceron is a French herding breed originating in France. The Beauceron dog is also referred to with different names such as Berger de Beauce or Bas Rouge or French short-haired shepherd.

The proper way of Beauceron pronunciation is 'Bo-ser-on'. Of the known dogs in this breed, the Beauceron dog is considered the versatile French sheepdog.

Another known herding dog is the Briard, also known as Berger de Brie, and is considered a Beauceron mix and the Barbet crossbreed. The Briard is a long-haired, medium-sized herding dog breed, whereas the Beauceron is a short-haired, medium-sized covered with a double coat, i.e.

a short and hard outer coat and woolly undercoat. Like the Briard, the Beauceron dog has double dewclaws on its rear paws.

The Beauceron dewclaws make this breed unique from other dog breeds. The Beauceron dog body has a mix of multiple color coats like the Harlequin Beauceron coat, a mix of gray, black, and tan.
